“Medianoche” was inspired by the many, many nights that I have spent looking out upon the Atlantic Ocean, in a neighborhood which during the day is overrun by tourism. Its lyrics celebrate the mystery of this seascape, which stands in dramatic contrast to the ways in which the beach is marketed and experienced by most visitors. It is a celebration of the mysterious, transcendent, and exquisite beauty of the ocean—in part because of the aspects of it which we can see, but also because of those which we cannot.
